Developer seeks damages in libel suit

June 2. Developer Jake Palillo is suing two people for over comments on social media that he says crossed the line into libel.

The Lagoona Bay project has been endorsed by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.

Palillo is in the midst of planning the $800 million Lagoona Bay project in Huntersville on either side of Hwy. 73 near Westmoreland and McCord.

Even before the project has reached the Town Board, it has draw fire on the Birkdale Village Ridiculousness Facebook page where ambitious plans to expand Birkdale Village were shot down.

The 270-acre Lagoona Bay would include a hotel and conference center; retail; and luxury housing.

The centerpiece is a Crystal Lagoon which would be an amenity for the 270-acre project.

Palillo, the developer of Bailey’s Glen in Cornelius and Symphony Park in Huntersville, could not be reached for comment.

  1. I am curious what the two persons wrote on social media that would cause such a big developer to notice it.
