Symetra Classic comes to Davidson May 17-19

Feb. 5 – Women’s professional golf arrives at the River Run Country Club in Davidson May 17-19, 2018 for the Symetra Classic, tournament organizers announced today.

The Symetra Classic was held at Raintree Country Club in Charlotte from 2012–2016 and moved to Atlanta National Golf Club in 2017.

The 54-hole event  returns to the area under a new, multi-year commitment to River Run.

“Professional golf has been extremely successful in the greater Charlotte area and we’re excited to return to the Queen City,” said Mike Nichols, chief business officer of the Symetra Tour. “Our purses and playing opportunities have improved greatly over the last five years and we look forward to competing at River Run’s world-class facility.”

The Symetra Tour is known as “the Road to the LPGA” and since 1999 it has been designated as the LPGA’s Official Qualifying Tour. The Tour prepares the world’s best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. Allison Emrey and Laura Wearn, both Charlotte natives, currently play on the Symetra Tour.

This will be the first women’s professional golf tournament hosted by River Run Country Club. The club previously hosted a playoff event on the Web.com Tour from 2013 to 2015.

“River Run is excited to add to our history of hosting professional golf as we welcome the future stars of the LPGA and Symetra Financial,” said Slade Goldstein, River Run Country Club president. “Our community is looking forward to rolling out the welcome mat for these talented women to test their skill on our course.”
