New CEO at BBBS

Donna Y. Dunlap is the new CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte, effective Feb. 16. Dunlap, who comes to the mentoring organization after 20 years in leadership roles with XEROX and Microsoft, is an active board member with organizations like YWCA Central Carolinas, Girl Scouts Hornet’s Nest Council and the Levine Museum. Her mother was a Big Sister and her father was actively engaged in the community assisting at-risk children.

“The opportunity to lead the organization is an honor and privilege,” Dunlap said. “I take it as my personal responsibility in working with colleagues, donors and volunteers to ensure that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte continues to make great strides toward achieving indisputable impact on the lives of children through our proven staff-supported, long-term mentoring model.”

Bruce LaRowe, who has served as interim CEO since October 2015, will continue in his role through March 1 to aid in the transition. Former CEO Karen Calder returned to Classroom Central in the fall to serve as its executive director.
