Hugh Sykes is Main Street Champ in Mooresville

March 17. Long-time volunteer Hugh Sykes, the treasurer of the Mooresville Downtown Commission, has been named Downtown Mooresville’s 2020 Main Street Champion.

A former business owner, Sykes has been a board member for more than a dozen years, managing the Downtown Mooresville Cruise-In event for many years which regularly attracted as many as 600 classic cars and spectators to the heart of Mooresville.

He was recognized during a ceremony held by the North Carolina Main Street Program which works to stimulate economic development within the context of historic preservation across the state. North Carolina Main Street Champions are individuals awarded annually in recognition for their strong sense of commitment to their respective Downtown communities.

  1. Hugh Sykes is a champion in many ways. He cares about Mooresville more then most. He talks the talk and walks the walk. A veteran, was a small business owner, gave of his free time, antique car aficionado and just an all round good guy. Award long overdue. Thank you Hugh.
