Exquisite estate on Lake Norman on market for $5.9 million

12,000 sq ft estate now listed for $5.9 million.

Picture a perfectly gorgeous 12,000-square-foot lakefront home on two private acres in The Point.  The house, at 127 Thurstons Way, was listed at $7.95 million in 2015, and reduced to $7.45 million in 2016.  It’s been re-listed at $5.9 million with Victor and Amy Petrenko of Premier Sotheby’s International.  The back story is interesting. With over 12,000-square feet of luxury living, the residence may have been under-built with four bedrooms. The feedback the owners kept getting from potential buyers was that the home didn’t have enough bedrooms for guests and family.  The owners are meeting the market for super-luxury homes head on.

They’re getting a septic expansion permit to make it a six-bedroom house.

They are also having renderings done to relocate the home theater to the basement and to make the home theater a new bedroom.

The house, which has four full and five half baths, has wood-paneled corridors and elegant staircases as well as 1,200-bottle wine cellar, an infinity pool, art studio, a two-car “day garage” and four-car, climate controlled collector’s garage.

And two more bedrooms are on the way.

Former Waltrip estate sells for $2 million in Sherrills Ford

Waltrip estate in Sherill’s Ford.

Oct 31. The former Michael Waltrip estate on Lake Norman has sold for $2.065 million after being on the market for just under $2.5 million for almost a year. The sprawling 67-acre compound at 8556 Dog Leg Road in Sherrills Ford was sold by Waltrip in 2011.

The race car driver and team owner put the gated estate on the market in 2009 with a $10 million price tag. In the midst of the Great Recession, Waltrip reduced the amount of land for sale and lowered the price to $8 million.

According to listing agent Josh Tucker with Anchor Real Estate, Waltrip finally sold the estate for $1.6 million in 2011. Some $8 million was said to be invested in it.

According to Catawba County records, the tax value is $1.946 million.

The property includes six bedrooms in 12,000-plus square feet in a main house and adjoining guest house.

According to breathless TV news coverage almost 10 years ago, the main house, some of which dates back to the early 1800s, had heated marble floors, custom painted walls and a master closet that took up two rooms.

The guest house doubles as an entertainment venue with an arcade, gaming room, racquetball/basketball court and fitness room. Two shop buildings have more than 9,000 square feet.

A 4,000-square-foot barn, four separate pastures, three ponds, a babbling brook, wine grotto, outdoor basketball court and a helipad round out the estate.

Oh, and it’s on a private Lake Norman cove with three docks.

Tucker shared the listing with Traci Roberts, also with Anchor. The buyers were represented by Maria Jacobs of Lake Norman Realty.
