Ray Evernham

EVERNHAM

Jan. 4. Business leaders will hear from NASCAR racing legend Ray Evernham Jan. 15 at the Lake Norman Chamber’s Annual Banquet at The Peninsula Club in Cornelius. The Cashion Business Person of the Year will be presented as well as the Duke Citizenship and Service Award.

Speaker Ray Evernham started racing and working on cars at age 15. Evernham won three NASCAR Cup Championships, 47 Cup Victories and 2 Daytona’s as Jeff Gordon’s Crew Chief. Since leaving Rick Hendrick Racing, he has become a TV personality, racing analyst, philanthropist and spokesman.

The banquet also serves as the Chamber’s annual meeting. Outgoing Chamber Board Chair Mike Russell, COO of Madvapes, will turn over the leadership of the Chamber to Callan Bryan, managing partner of Vandiver & Bryan.  Russell helped introduce such new programs as the Lake Norman Young Professionals and the Education Collaborative.

In 2015, the Chamber ditched a soft stance on the issue of managed lanes and became an outspoken opponent of tolling I-77 through the lake communities.  “Chairing the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce in 2015 was a tremendously rewarding experience.  Backed by a strong, diverse, and engaged board of directors, our tireless staff and committed team of volunteers were able to integrate our new technology, create new programs, and build on the exceptional foundation created by previous board members and chairs.” said Russell.

“This past summer, after months of thoughtful and deliberate discussion by our Board, we took a very strong stance on the issue of HOT lanes at the lake.  We held numerous workshops and information sessions designed to inform the business community, as well as engage local citizens and elected leaders,”  he said.

Russell added, “We take our role as the voice of Lake Norman business very seriously and we will continue to advocate for our member’s interest. Our hard work was recognized by our Chamber peers as the 2015 Chamber of the Year in North and South Carolina.  It was a sincere privilege to be part of a dynamic leadership team and an outstanding Chamber that achieved excellence in 2015.  I have thoroughly enjoyed serving our membership as Board Chair.”

Chamber members and guests can RSVP to the Chamber via the chamber website at www.lakenormanchamber.org or by calling the Chamber at 704-892-1922.  Single tickets are $85 each and sponsorships are still available.
