Sept. 18. Donna Carpenter, CEO of the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau, has received the Southeast Tourism Society Beacon Award. Under Carpenter’s leadership since 2009, the Cabarrus County CVB has achieved accreditation from Destination Marketing Association International, moved the Visitor Center to a new location and implemented the “Destination 2020” vision plan, a roadmap to enhancing connectivity, safety and visitor experience. The Beacon Award recognizes an individual who best exemplifies outstanding leadership in the pursuit of excellence and who has advanced the tourism industry. Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Marcus Smith received the honor in 2012.
