Dec. 19. The Cabarrus County Community Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $24,000 to 11 nonprofit organizations. The foundation is a permanent endowment established in 1989 by local leaders to benefit a broad range of charitable purposes.
Grants included:
- $3,000 to the Academic Learning Center, Inc. for an after-school tutoring program
- $500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte for a mentoring program in Cabarrus County
- $3,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County for Project Learn, an after-school program
- $2,000 to the Cabarrus Arts Council for arts performances for children in grades K-12
- $3,000 to the Cabarrus Cooperative Christian Ministry for shelter and housing programming
- $2,000 to the Cabarrus County Education Foundation for a classroom incentive program
- $500 to the Cabarrus County Partnership for Children for Reach Out and Read program books
- $1,000 to the Cannon Memorial YMCA for the Share the Harvest Community Farm
- $3,000 to the Junior Charity League of Concord for the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room
- $3,000 to the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Foundation for health and wellness education and outreach
- $3,000 to The Salvation Army for the Center of Hope emergency shelter
