Brixx open in new Birkdale spot; more stores coming

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is open in new Birkdale Village location with all their favorite pies.

May 18. By TL Bernthal. Brixx Wood Fired Pizza moved down the street and has opened in its new spot near the movie theater — and more parking is nearby.

Brixx was open last weekend in the old Qdoba space. The old Brixx space will be the home of Foxcroft Wine Co., expected to open later this year.

The move has benefits for both. Brixx is now closer to parking – the Regal movie theater parking lot – and Foxcroft Wine Co. will have a front-row seat at the Big Screen where entertainment options are offered. Regal, NAP and the business group closer to Sam Furr Road have a parking agreement allowing shoppers to park in the movie theater lots, for example, or movie-goers to park in Birkdale Village spots or use the valet parking.

The nearby parking for Brixx and the entertainment view for patio patrons of Foxcroft Wine Co. was a match, according to a North American Properties official. NAP acquired Birkdale Village in November 2020.

The menu for Brixx, at 16926 Birkdale Commons Parkway, remains great pizza and more. There are vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Hours: 11 am-11 pm, Monday-Thursday; 11 am -midnight Friday-Saturday; Sunday, 11 am -11 pm.

More Birkdale news

Airlie Baby and Morelia Gourmet Paletas will soon be joined by Girl Tribe Co. and Sugar + Ice in the Birkdale Village kiosks.  North American Properties and Nuveen Real Estate have executed one-year license agreements with the two Charlotte-based businesses, both of which are set to open in less than a month.

Designed to serve as incubators for short-term pop-ups from small, local business owners, the tiny retail district  of four spaces is now fully occupied.

Byrdie will be parked on the sidewalk area in the kiosk area.

Girl Tribe Co. – After hosting the successful Girl Supply pop-up at Birkdale Village, childhood best friends and self-funded co-founders Sarah Baucom and Carrie Barker are getting back to their roots.

Girl Supply will officially close on Sunday, May 21, and by Saturday, May 27, the duo plans to have Girl Tribe Co. up-and-running in the tiny retail shop next to Airlie Baby and Byrdie, a bright pink, 1972 camper van-turned-traveling-storefront that will be situated on the adjacent sidewalk. Upon opening, shoppers can peruse the brand’s women-positive, whimsical collection of on-trend graphic tees and sweats, chic and affordable women’s clothing, and unique accessories.

Ryan and Natalia Schooley, Sugar+ Ice co-founders

Sugar + Ice – Huntersville locals Ryan and Natalia Schooley, co-owners of international wholesale supplier State Fair Mini Donuts, always dreamt of launching a brick-and-mortar location. The husband-wife duo first began working with Birkdale Village in 2021, popping up regularly during community-driven events and holidays. As demand flourished, so did the ambition to turn their dream into reality. Debuting this summer in the tiny retail shop next to Morelia, Sugar + Ice will serve the popular mini donuts as well as new offerings such as bagels, scones, and other grab-and-go items. Donut-lovers can anticipate five base flavors, five special gourmet options, and monthly rotating creations. Other menu items will include a selection of shaved ice, frozen beverage treats, and a coffee menu featuring espressos, lattes, frappes and more. Sugar + Ice’s grand opening is slated for Monday, June 5.

Quotable

“It has always been our goal to activate the tiny retail district with local entrepreneurs working to perfect their businesses before engaging in a long-term lease,” said Emily Narchus, NAP director of ancillary revenue. “Both of these pop-up concepts were so well-received by guests that we knew they deserved a spot in our ever-evolving lineup. We’ve had an incredible amount of interest in the tiny retail shops, and it has been such a joy getting to know so many of our wonderful neighbors throughout the vetting process.”
