Oct. 27. A 21-home neighborhood called Burke Crossings is Our Towns Habitat for Humanity first Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certified (LEED) community. It was built to be affordable, accessible and green.

Through an $85,000 donation from the Ingersoll Rand Charitable Foundation, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity completed the 1,064 square foot, three-bedroom home for  Annika Burton and her two children. Ingersoll Rand’s North American headquarters is in Davidson.

Construction on the home began in late May and nearly 100 Ingersoll Rand employees and family members volunteered 540 hours of work to complete this build. The company also donated an energy efficient Trane heating, ventilating and air conditioning unit and Ingersoll Rand power tools to the project to make the home as sustainable and energy efficient as possible.

“Our purpose is to advance the quality of life for our customers by creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments – just like your home,” said John Evans, vice president, global procurement at Ingersoll Rand.

“Ingersoll Rand’s commitment to corporate citizenship has made a powerful impact on our community,” said Jeff Porter, executive director of Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. “Their employees volunteered on the Habitat build site with enthusiasm and attention to detail. They showed us why they are a world leader.”
